The Challenge

What?

I’m taking on the epic mission to be the first woman to complete the Thir Southern Seasons 100 Miler Challenge.

– Four 100 mile trail running races in 12 months  – Minimum of 24 hours running in each race – An extreme test of human endurance and spirit

Why?

As I take on this relentless, crazy, amazing challenge I would like to raise awareness about family violence. To help break down the shame, the stigma, and the judgement. Let’s make it safe out here in the open, because it’s not safe for many behind closed doors.

I first started to run when I was living in a destructive, abusive relationship.  Running was my safe place, an area of my life that I could control, I ran from the pain, depression and anxiety, and I ran to feel powerful and strong.  When I first started running it was with a grim determination, but what grew out of that was something much, much more, a love, a passion, a calling.

Mine, like so many others, is a story of pain and horror and hardship. But it is also a story of love and hope and light.  It is a story of resilience, grit and determination.  I now run free and happy and limitless and that is the story I want to share.
